Abstract

|
Forty-one hemangiomas of the liver in 29 patients (16 males, 13 females) were investigated retrospectively to evaluate the significance of posterior enhancement of a mass on sonography. The echogenicity of hemangioma was hyperechoic in 29 (70.7%)
and
hypoechioc in 12 (29.3%). Six of 12 hypoechoic hemangiomas were associated with fatty liver. Posterior enhancement was seen in two of 20 hemangiomas (10%) smaller than 3cm in diameter, and 19 of 21 hemangiomas (90.5%) larger than 3cm. Posterior
enhancement is one of the common findings in case of large hemangioma.
